Michael Anthony García Survey Marks 30 Years at Austin's Emma S. Barrientos MACC
The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican-American Cultural Center in Austin presents "Bored of Necessity: 30 Years of Practicing," the first major survey exhibition of interdisciplinary artist Michael Anthony García, running September 5 through October 3, 2026. The exhibition spans three decades of García's work and assembles sculpture, installation, performance, photography, video, and archival materials. An accompanying book traces the evolution of a practice the Cultural Center describes as rooted in experimentation, persistence, and a sustained commitment to art-making as a means of understanding the world. The presentation is featured in Glasstire's Five-Minute Tours series, through which commercial galleries, museums, nonprofits, and artist-run spaces across Texas submit video walk-throughs of their current exhibitions for publication. A video tour of the García exhibition is available via the series. The Cultural Center provided the exhibition description. The survey is positioned as the first comprehensive overview of García's thirty-year career, bringing together multiple media alongside archival documentation in a single presentation in Austin.
