exhibition · 2026-10-11

From March 7 to September 6, 2027, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, will present the American debut of David Hockney's immersive video installation, Bigger & Closer (not smaller & further away). Hockney, who passed away earlier this year, initially unveiled this exhibition in London in 2023. The installation features projections on four walls and the floor, showcasing six decades of his artistic journey, accompanied by a soundtrack from Nico Muhly. Included in the display are Polaroid collages, iPad sketches, and animated theater designs, along with works like The Four Seasons and Woldgate Woods. MFAH Director Gary Tinterow expressed enthusiasm for this exhibition, which marks Hockney's significant return to Houston since the 2021 show Hockney – Van Gogh: The Joy of Nature.
