Mexican studios revamp Azteca Stadium interiors with custom furniture for 2026 World Cup

A consortium of five Mexican design studios—CUAIK | CDS, Luis Huerta, Estudio Ignacio Urquiza Ana Paula de Alba, CAAM Arquitectos, and Clásicos Mexicanos—has completed a comprehensive interior overhaul of Mexico City's Azteca Stadium (Estadio Banorte), a venue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The project covers 15,000 square metres of hospitality spaces, including street-level access, reception areas, lounges, and clubs, all unified by a custom furniture collection called Colección EA, developed with Piztola. The design preserves the stadium's modernist spirit while introducing chromatic schemes: terracotta on the west entry, yellow on lower floors, green on upper levels. The east side features the stadium's largest bar with double patios overlooking the pitch and city. Underground, a series of clubs follow the pitch's curve, anchored by the Centerline Club. A lounge features a custom mural by Cerámica Suro depicting the stadium's history. Furniture was sourced from Piztola, Cacao, and Patrones. The studios emphasized the stadium's role as a cultural symbol, having hosted the 1968 Olympics and 1970/1986 World Cups. The superstructure revamp was led by Populous. Photography by Zaickz Moz.
