Metropolitan Museum of Art's 'Raphael: Sublime Poetry' Examines the Master's Innovations and Influence

The exhibition 'Raphael: Sublime Poetry' at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York showcases the intricate visual narratives of Raffaello Sanzio (1483-1520). It includes a diverse array of figure and architectural sketches, printmaking collaborations, tapestries, and a quarter of his paintings, alongside works by artists he admired and those he excelled. Notable pieces are 'Portrait of a Young Woman with a Unicorn' (1508), blending Gothic elements with Renaissance chiaroscuro, and 'Alba Madonna' (1511), reflecting Michelangelo's strength and Leonardo's sfumato. Raphael's remarkable disegni, such as 'Head of the Muse Polyhymnia' (1512) and 'Cumean Sybil' (1513), highlight his exceptional line work.
