Metonia Designs Creates Rust-Colored Salon in Ahmedabad with Twilight-Inspired Palette

Metonia Designs, the architecture office led by Prakhar Jain and Shivangi Sharma, has completed Geetanjali Salon on Sindhu Bhavan Road in Ahmedabad, India. The two-storey flagship store features a uniform rust-colored material palette inspired by dusk, named Saanjh after the Hindi term for twilight. The design intentionally blurs spatial boundaries to create an immersive environment where salon services are treated as artistic rituals rather than routine transactions. Red Agra sandstone appears throughout the reception area, complemented by a monolithic welcome desk crafted from stone and weathered steel. A central gallery-like hairstyling zone with mirrors set between pillars forms the core of the ground floor, connecting to a hair coloring gallery and a barber's station. Circular cutouts illuminate styling bays like halos, while a latticed screen evoking traditional jaali dividers separates a men's grooming wing. A sculptural white staircase spirals up to the first floor, which houses private treatment rooms and dedicated bridal spaces for hair, makeup, pedicures, and saree draping—accommodating extended family gatherings during traditional Indian wedding preparations. The architects deliberately set aside precedent to create a radical scheme that rethinks wellness spaces, using locally resonant materials to achieve timelessness.
