Mérida's Casa Meridiano 48 Preserves Historic Patina in Adaptive Renovation

In Mérida's historic center, a collaborative team of architects—Moro Taller de Arquitectura, Taller Omar Almaguer, and Veinte Diezz Arquitectos—has completed Casa Meridiano 48, a 155 m² residential project that deliberately retains the existing facade's stains, cracks, and repaints as visible traces of the building's material history. Rather than restoring an idealized image, the project preserves the patina accumulated over time, maintaining urban continuity along the street. The intervention fosters a restrained relationship with the pre-existing structure, allowing new architecture to engage with the old without erasing its marks. The project was curated by Valentina Díaz, with interior design by Debra Heftye Studio. Lead architects include Mauricio Rodríguez Mejía, José Luis Irizzont Manzanero, and Omar Almaguer Viruete.
