artist · 2026-10-19

On 11 October 2026, Meredith Monk made her debut performance in Mexico at Sala Nezahualcóyotl, accompanied by Katie Geissinger and Allison Sniffin, as part of Festival CulturaUNAM. This occasion coincided with the release of La Tempestad, a Spanish translation by Iván García of a 1993 interview with poet Rodrigo Garcia Lopes, which was published in the Brazilian journal Nicolau, edited by Wilson Bueno. The collection features a note from Janete El Haouli. Born in New York in 1942, Monk characterizes her work as performance art, highlighting the voice as a spiritual tool. She refers to her approach as an archaeology of the voice, distancing herself from minimalist labels and exploring themes in works like Book of Days and Education of a Girlchild. El Haouli describes her as an archaeologist of vocality.
