Mercado Central: Tadu Arquitetura transforms Rio's historic Granado factory into cultural hub

Tadu Arquitetura has completed the Mercado Central, a transformation of five historic buildings in Rio de Janeiro's city center that once housed the first Granado factory, opened in 1903. The 800 m² project, led by architect Thiago Tavares with coordination by Patrícia Fontaine and team members Isabela Moraes, Renato Rampini, and Rafael Vermil, repurposes industrial heritage into a mixed-use space for gastronomy, art, culture, and urban coexistence. Curated by Susanna Moreira, the Mercado Central is slated for completion in 2026, creating a new territory for public engagement in the historic center.
