McAnuff Family and Ligerians Bridge Reggae Generations on French Tour

Jamaican reggae singer Winston McAnuff, with his children Nadia and Kush, is touring France this summer with French reggae band Ligerians as the McAnuff Family. The family project aims to connect different generations and schools of reggae, demonstrating the genre's vitality 45 years after Bob Marley's death. In an interview with RFI at the No Logo BZH festival, Nadia McAnuff explained that the family has always performed together, with her early involvement in the Inna de Yard collective, and later with Ligerians. The group recently released the album 'Africa My Destiny', which includes a title track inspired by a poem by Jamaican writer Claude McKay, 'If We Must Die', which Winston McAnuff adapted into music as a tribute. The album also features 'Be Careful', a song recorded with Winston's late son Matthew, who died in 2012, and now performed by the three surviving members as a way to 'multiply' Matthew. The family also addresses political themes, such as in 'Story Comes to Bump', with Winston emphasizing the importance of artists speaking out on social issues, citing reggae's role during apartheid. Reflecting on reggae's evolution, Winston described it as a positive force, comparing its impact to a single sugar cube sweetening a cup of tea, and noted that darkness has limited power compared to light.
