Max Beckmann works from private collections debut at Hauser & Wirth Basel

Hauser & Wirth Basel is hosting an exceptional exhibition showcasing works by Max Beckmann, sourced from private collections in the U.S. and Europe, including pieces belonging to the artist's heirs. This event aligns with Art Basel and features approximately half of the artworks for sale, with prices ranging between €1 million and €4 million, as stated by gallery director Carlo Knöll. The display encompasses mature oil paintings created from the mid-1920s to the late 1940s, alongside an early piece, Large Gray Waves (1905), and a self-portrait from around 1900, portraying a youthful Beckmann as a Goya-like figure. Highlights include Girl with Yellow Cat (on Gray) (1937), Seashore with Balloon (early 1930s), and The Frightened Woman (1947). The exhibition is open until 11 July.
