MAUTO in Turin unveils '12 Automobili' design exhibition spanning 1952–2000

The Museo Nazionale dell'Automobile di Torino (MAUTO) has renovated its Spazio Design with a new exhibition titled '12 Automobili / Twelve Automobiles', curated by Paolo Tumminelli. The show presents twelve iconic cars arranged in six thematic islands, tracing over half a century of automotive design history. The exhibition opens and closes with the Volkswagen Typ 1 Maggiolino (1952) and the Volkswagen New Beetle (2000), highlighting memory and reinterpretation. Other featured models include the Studebaker Champion Regal de Luxe Coupé (1947), Porsche 356 SC (1964), Cadillac Sixty Special Fleetwood (1958), BMW Neue Klasse 1800 (1968), Lancia Megagamma (1978), and Mazda Miata (1991). Prototypes such as the Dallara Bertone Icsunonove and Pininfarina BLMC 1100 represent radical Italian design. The exhibition also includes a focus on industrial design with Olivetti typewriters—Lexikon 80 by Marcello Nizzoli, Praxis 20 by Mario Bellini, and Tekne 3 by Ettore Sottsass Jr. and Hans Von Klier—and advertising graphics for Fiat and Lancia. The display positions automobiles as cultural documents reflecting societal and industrial change.
