Matthias Ditscherlein's Documentary 'Über Unterbiberger – Vom Woid in die Welt' Premieres in Cinemas

Matthias Ditscherlein's new documentary 'Über Unterbiberger – Vom Woid in die Welt' profiles the Bavarian brass band Unterbiberger Hofmusik and its leader Franz Josef Himpsl. The film follows the group on trips to Egypt and Morocco as well as to their home in the Bavarian Forest, exploring how they blend traditional Bavarian folk music—accordion and tuba—with Arabic vocals and lyrics. Himpsl, described by a childhood friend as 'never smoothed over,' has translated the catchy classic 'Rehragout' into Arabic. The band, which includes Himpsl, his wife Irene, and their children, has performed in ten countries. The documentary captures Himpsl walking through the streets of Marrakesh in a gilet, highlighting his unique artistic biography. The film is a portrait of the group's international success, likening their family dynamic to that of the Kelly Family. It also touches on the cultural fusion that might surprise conservative audiences. The documentary is now showing in cinemas.
