Matisse's Color Revolution at H'ART Museum Amsterdam

The H'ART Museum in Amsterdam, in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou, presents a rare exhibition of Henri Matisse's work, only the third ever dedicated to the master in the Netherlands. The show features over eighty pieces, including about thirty by Matisse himself, displayed alongside works by his contemporaries such as Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso, and Sonia Delaunay, as well as later artists like Mark Rothko and Ellsworth Kelly, illustrating how his pursuit of pure color influenced the entire century. A highlight is the exceptional loan of 'La Blouse roumaine' (The Romanian Blouse), a masterpiece painted on the eve of World War II and rarely allowed to leave Paris. The exhibition runs from October 3, 2026, to February 14, 2027. Picasso once remarked that ultimately, there is only Matisse, underscoring the artist's profound impact. The show aims to demonstrate how Matisse changed not just painting but our perception of color itself.
