Matadero Madrid and CentroCentro launch summer cultural refuge program

Matadero Madrid and CentroCentro are transforming their spaces into cultural and climatic refuges this summer, offering programs that combine art, nature, and community. From July 1 to 31, Matadero's Nave Una hosts "Un cuarto de estar para la ciudad," a project by Intermediae that turns the space into a collective living room open Tuesday to Sunday, 12:00-21:00. The program includes concerts, soundscapes, performances, open conversations, and listening sessions. Featured initiatives include "Estudio abierto" by Yuan iuan focusing on the Chinese diaspora in Usera; a contact sports gathering by Gada 7; "Tardes de escucha y refugio" by Campos de Marte and Marco Padiya; and "Transferencia," a nocturnal sound drift along the river by Iren Márquez Dos Santos and Euyín Eugene. CentroCentro opens its Espacio Cultural Vegetal from July 3 to August 30, Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00-20:00, featuring vegetation, publications, and contemplation areas. Activities include a botanical drawing workshop by Marta Chirino and a flamenco performance by Ofelia Márquez on August 7. Native plants are provided by the Subdirección General de Parques y Viveros, with care by urban botany specialist Elena Páez of Planthae. The initiatives aim to rethink cultural spaces as places for rest, listening, and temporary community building.
