Massimo Dutti Debuts Steven Sebring's Rare Patti Smith Portraits at SoHo Flagship

exhibition · 2026-10-23

At 575 Broadway in SoHo, Massimo Dutti's new flagship hosts "Patti Smith by Steven Sebring," an exhibition of previously unseen photographs on view through October 25. The Spanish fashion house commissioned the show, which highlights the long creative relationship between Sebring and Smith and their shared New York milieu. Sebring, a photographer and filmmaker, spent over a decade making the documentary Patti Smith: Dream of Life, accumulating a vast image archive from which this selection is drawn. Both artists are based in New York, and Smith's impact on the city's music, poetry, and avant-garde scenes is a subtext of the work. In a statement, Sebring called the project "deeply personal" because it connects his own vision of New York with Smith, whom he described as "a foundational figure in the city's contemporary cultural scene." The exhibition marks the first time these photographs have been shown in New York.
