MASS MoCA Announces 2027 Artists-in-Residence Including Two with Texas Ties
The Studios at MASS MoCA has announced its 2027 artists-in-residence, featuring Texas-connected artists Beili Liu and Alejandro Macias. Both have received Alumni Artists residencies, designated for past participants. Liu, a Professor of Studio Art at the University of Texas at Austin, previously resided there in spring/summer 2019. Her honors include the Dallas Museum of Art Awards to Artists in 2011 and 2025, a Pollock Prize for Creativity in 2022, an Andrew Carnegie Fellowship in 2022, and a Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant in 2017. Macias, from Brownsville and now in Tucson, Arizona, is an Associate Professor at the University of Arizona. He completed a residency in fall/winter 2019-2020, showcasing his art at various galleries. In 2027, he plans to create multimedia paintings celebrating borderlands communities. Residents receive studio space, lodging, meals, curator access, and career resources.
