Martha Diamond's Artistic Estate Now Managed by Thaddaeus Ropac Gallery

The estate of painter Martha Diamond has entered into representation with Thaddaeus Ropac gallery. Diamond, who passed away in 2023, was recognized for her dynamic abstract paintings depicting New York City's architectural landscape. Her artistic practice involved applying vigorous, textured brushwork in vivid hues to capture the essence of urban structures. A significant figure within the New York School, she was also active in downtown literary circles, associating with figures like poet John Giorno and critic Peter Schjeldahl. Her influences included notable abstract expressionists such as Joan Mitchell, Jackson Pollock, and Franz Kline. Throughout her career, Diamond presented solo exhibitions at venues including The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Connecticut, David Kordansky Gallery, and Magenta Plains in New York. Her work was included in collective presentations at Anton Kern Gallery, Karma, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, featuring in both the 1984 "MetaManhattan" exhibition and the 1989 Whitney Biennial. Her paintings are held in the permanent collections of major institutions like the Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Guggenheim Museum. This new representation agreement ensures the ongoing management and promotion of her artistic legacy.
