Marta Nowicka builds DOM Studio in Camber Sands entirely from reclaimed materials

Architect Marta Nowicka has completed DOM Studio, a small workspace in Camber Sands, East Sussex, using only reclaimed materials such as scaffolding planks, hollow concrete blocks, and wood-wool boards. The studio occupies a leftover plot 20 metres from the sea and features an angular, monolithic form designed to deflect strong southwesterly winds while maximising solar gain. Its parabolic roof emerged from an improvisational dialogue with the builder, involving cutting reclaimed scaffolding boards to fit curved trusses. Inside, raw blockwork walls, a ceiling of wood-wool panels, and shelving from recovered boards create a gritty, unrefined aesthetic. The interior includes a work area with a wide picture window, a seating area with a log burner, a bathroom, and an infrared sauna.
