Marta Dell’Angelo’s ‘Matrici’ Blends Painting and Performance at Assab One
At Assab One in Milan, Marta Dell’Angelo’s solo exhibition ‘Matrici’ merges painting and performance, curated by Marina Dacci. The show focuses on hands—clenched, intertwined, grasping—evoking primordial gestures and geological references like ‘Dolomia’ and ‘Formazione carsica’. A large natural rock on the floor with a hollow space suggests emergence from the earth. The artist’s performative painting is complemented by a live performance by dancer-musician Marek, who descends a spiral staircase, stripping to his underwear, his skin in dialogue with the painted hands. The exhibition also features Luca Pancrazzi’s public text ‘Mi disperdo e proseguo, lasciandomi indietro un passo dopo l’altro’ on the building’s roof, and his micro-skyline drawings on cash register rolls displayed inside. Assab One, a non-profit founded by Elena Quarestani, has hosted Dell’Angelo multiple times, including her 2019 retrospective ‘Afrodite A’. The show runs until June 27.
