Marta de la Rica revives 1970s nautical glamour at Club de Mar Mallorca

Madrid-based designer Marta de la Rica has completed the interior redesign of Club de Mar Mallorca, a historic marina club founded in 1972 that helped establish Palma as a Mediterranean sailing hub. After a five-and-a-half-year redevelopment, the club reopened with interiors that honor its past without becoming a maritime museum. De la Rica drew inspiration from vintage Riva runabouts and the club's 1970s origins, using high-gloss lacquered wood, chrome, and glass throughout. The color palette borrows from the International Code of Signals, featuring red, blue, and yellow, with stripes on upholstery and custom-designed sculptural furniture. Nautical antiques from the club's archive—boat models, barometers, anchors, and diving helmets—are placed throughout. The terrace offers views of Palma's Old Town and cathedral, designed to evoke the feeling of being on a boat. The result is a glossy, graphic interior rooted in its location at Muelle Pelaires, 07015 Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain.
