Marseille Villa Rossignols: Mediterranean Retreat by Sandrine Sarah Faivre

Interior architect Sandrine Sarah Faivre transformed a former caretaker's house on the outskirts of Marseille into Villa Rossignols, a 200 sq m coastal retreat cascading across three levels with equal terrace area. The weekend pied-à-terre prioritizes views of the sea and ancient pines, with Faivre preserving two remarkable specimens despite construction challenges. Interiors feature pine parquet echoing the trees, pale limestone, and mirrors to elongate a compressed ceiling height from excavation into rock. Full-height curtains filter southern sun, while living zones include kitchen, dining, living room with fireplace, and reading nook with bespoke oak daybed. Furnishings showcase Marseille's creative community: custom padouk-veneer joinery, hand-woven raffia canework, terracotta vessels, Moroccan ceramics, vintage Charlotte Perriand 'Tabouret Méribel' stool, Pierre Chapo 'S11' dining chairs, geometric rugs, wobbly glassware, and contemporary artworks. Faivre's favorite space is the terrace, defining the holiday home's essence between sand and sea.
