Marria Pratts: Joy, Ruin, and the Freedom of Form

Marria Pratts, born in Barcelona and based in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, is an artist whose practice spans painting, drawing, sculpture, carpets, furniture, ceramics, fanzines, neon, photography, and installation. Her work resists narrow definitions, treating creativity as inseparable from daily experience. She gathers inspiration from streets, found materials, and collaborators including photographers, designers, and musicians. Her art responds to urban contradictions like gentrification, using discarded objects and traces of resilience. Painting remains central, approached as a field of freedom where rules are invented and broken. Her methods embrace imperfections: drips, scratches, spray lines, tears, and even flame on the support. Recurring motifs—clocks, faces, hands, ladders, chairs, flowers, and ghosts—form a visual vocabulary across mediums. Ghosts, often humorous or tender, suggest overlooked lives and urban memory.
