Mark Lewis's 'Snow' at Daniel Faria Gallery Traces Two Decades of Film

The "Snow" exhibition at the Daniel Faria Gallery in Toronto marks Mark Lewis's fifth solo showcase, highlighting films spanning from 2002 to 2026. Among the featured pieces is "Nathan Phillips Square, A Winter's Night, Skating," which debuted at the 2009 Venice Biennial under the curation of Barbara Fischer. The collection opens with "Algonquin Park, Early March" (2002), displaying snow-laden treetops over four minutes. Architectural elements are prominent, seen in "Pavilion" (2015), which depicts Mies van der Rohe's towers, and "Snowstorm at Robarts Library" (2015), showcasing the University of Toronto. "Last Snow (after CDF)" (2025) pays homage to Caspar David Friedrich. Lewis, originally from Hamilton, Ontario, resides in London, U.K., and co-founded Afterall, where he compared the oddities of the pandemic to a city blanketed in deep snow.
