Marinella Senatore's 'We Rise by Lifting Others' Opens at The Human Safety Net in Venice

At La Casa di The Human Safety Net in Venice's Piazza San Marco, Marinella Senatore presents 'We Rise by Lifting Others', a site-specific participatory project running until 27 March 2027. The exhibition, developed through workshops with women victims of violence via three NGOs in Warsaw, Mestre, and Palermo, transforms their narratives into tapestries and a four-meter-high sculptural light installation. Senatore, named Artist of the Year 2026 at the GNAM in Rome, emphasizes participation as both method and content, aligning with The Human Safety Net's mission. The tapestries, embroidered by the Chanakya School of Craft in Mumbai, serve as banners of collective celebration, while the light structure, inspired by Baroque candelieri, incorporates phrases in four languages and a fish sculpture symbolizing rebirth. Senatore critiques Italy's high rate of gender violence and the lack of emotional education in schools, advocating for culture as a remedy. The project also includes ethical production processes, with works made in India to support women's emancipation.
