Marie Détrée: Inside the Life of a French Navy Painter
Marie Détrée, who hails from Saint-Malo and was born in 1973, has served as an official painter for the French Navy since 2010. After training at Beaux-Arts de Paris, she entered the corps by showcasing her work at the Salon de la Marine. This position, established in 1830, does not provide a salary but includes uniforms and ceremonial responsibilities. Détrée's experiences on naval missions with limited resources inspired her first book, L'Invention des dimanches (Rouergue, 2022). This year, she released a children’s book titled Le Chat du commandant Charcot through Glénat. An upcoming volume on Polynesia is in the works, and she is set to exhibit at Galerie L'Art des Marines in Rouen this October. Her album, La Montagne de glace (Un dimanche après-midi, 2023), focuses on climate change.
