Marianna Iozzino's 'Stratigrafie della memoria' at Museo Ignazio Cerio, Capri

Until September 2, the Museo Ignazio Cerio in Capri hosts 'Stratigrafie della memoria', a site-specific project by artist Marianna Iozzino, curated by Marina Guida. The exhibition features four large oil paintings on raw linen and a series of drawings on paper, interacting with the museum's collections. Guida describes the museum as a 'device capable of generating new imaginative possibilities'. Iozzino's work evolves metamorphically, dissolving bio-anthropomorphic elements into relationships of light and color. The project explores the antinomy between memory as accumulation and rational cataloguing versus painting that, free from illustrative intent, selects and binds forms and memories through principles of mutation, dispersion, and transformation. In her paintings, artifacts lose documentary function and coalesce on canvas in unexpected forms, never reaching definitive synthesis. Iozzino celebrates the subject in becoming, with human, animal, and vegetable elements contributing to the flow of existence.
