Mariana Ralo's Handwoven Tapestries Debut at Lisbon Design Week 2026

Textile artist Mariana Ralo presented her new handwoven collection, INDIA, during Lisbon Design Week 2026 (LDW26) at the Vintage Hotel in Lisbon. The works were featured in 'Quiet Objects,' a group exhibition curated by THE CURATED, which showcased contemporary artists expanding textile art through weaving, knotting, embroidery, and sculptural fiber techniques. Set in the hotel's lobby, Ralo's pieces were positioned at the entrance, establishing the show's atmosphere. INDIA comprises tapestries made with materials sourced during her travels across Asia, reflecting encounter, material memory, and handcraft. Ralo, who has a background in engineering, brings logic and structure to her compositions, balancing geometry with tactile warmth. Her practice draws on childhood attraction to textiles and evolves through travel, collecting colors, gestures, and traditions. Each commissioned piece begins with a conversation, translating personal stories into material form. Ralo's work demonstrates that contemporary textile art can be rigorous yet intimate, decorative yet strong.
