Marià Castelló designs fragmented Formentera house Ses Clotades

Marià Castelló, an architect, has finalized the construction of Ses Clotades, a residence situated on Formentera, a Spanish island characterized by its undulating hills, sparse Mediterranean flora, and sandy dunes. This home consists of multiple volumes featuring terraces and outdoor pathways, designed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding trees. The largest section is designed to be porous, while the smallest is solid. Its fragmented layout accommodates varying numbers of residents, allowing the entire structure to be utilized for guests or just the largest volume for independent living. A versatile element serves as both an entrance and a flexible area. Natural light floods the lower level, which includes a library, screening room, gym, service spaces, and a substantial rainwater cistern for off-grid water supply. Thoughtful design of openings and shading promotes environmental sustainability through effective air circulation and temperature management, enhanced by open patios and water features. The interiors were thoughtfully curated by artist Elena Vinyàrskaya, who incorporated her own art, distinctive furniture, and meaningful objects to infuse warmth into the home's minimalist aesthetic. This project is located at Ses Clotades, linking the La Mola peninsula to the rest of the island.
