Marco Petrus: In-Motion at M77 Gallery, Milan

M77 Gallery in Milan presents 'In-Motion', a solo exhibition of works by Italian artist Marco Petrus (born 1960 in Rimini), curated by Sharon Hecker. The show, on view from May 29 to September 12, 2026, features 65 paintings, mostly medium and large scale, created over the last decade. The exhibition marks a significant evolution in Petrus's practice: while his signature geometric architectural compositions remain, his chromatic range has expanded, and the color now moves beyond architectural structure to explore more conceptual and abstract territories. The works are displayed across the gallery's floors, with more abstract, almost optical pieces on the lower level and works with clearer references to art history on the upper floor. Petrus's color becomes a 'moving thought', creating dynamic rhythms and visual intervals. The exhibition includes references to Giacomo Balla's 'Bambina che corre sul balcone', as well as nods to Morandi, Capogrossi, Afro Basaldella, Accardi, and Brâncuși. The gallery is known for its long-running exhibitions, allowing visitors repeated viewings. The show is accompanied by a critical text by Matteo Galbiati.
