Marc Pascal ODA + Emelia Islas Design 45 m² Helados Meñique Shop in San Miguel Chapultepec

architecture-design · 2026-10-19

Marc Pascal ODA + Emelia Islas designed the Helados Meñique ice cream shop in Mexico City's San Miguel Chapultepec neighborhood, compressing 45 m² into a sequence of interconnected zones: service counter, display area, consumption space and a small patio. Circulation runs continuously through these areas, and the patio — planted with vegetation and lit naturally — acts as a pause in the route while blurring the line between inside and outside. Glazed ceramic tile wraps multiple surfaces for visual continuity, joined by natural wood, painted ironwork and exposed concrete for texture and warmth. Arches, continuous surfaces and custom-built furniture organize the plan without heavy composition, and the brand's graphic language folds childhood and play references into the architecture. Warm, diffuse lighting favors a domestic feel over a conventional retail look. The architects frame the project as proof that a small footprint gains character through precise choices in layout, materiality and light. The piece appeared on Glocal Design Magazine's website, alongside related coverage of Cymisa, DIMUEBLE 2026, Design House 2026 and Glocal issue 89, Visionarias del espacio, which gathers 15 women architects and interior designers working in Mexico with two collector covers by Prince Láuder and Jimena Estíbaliz.
