Manica designs $3B Kansas City Chiefs dome stadium with transparent roof

Manica, a U.S. architectural firm, has unveiled its design for a new 70,000-seat domed stadium for the Kansas City Chiefs, set to replace Arrowhead Stadium. This $3 billion facility, expected to be completed by 2031, will incorporate a translucent roof made from 37,000 square meters of ETFE panels, enhancing visibility for military flyovers. Unlike the current open-air Arrowhead, the new stadium will be fully enclosed while preserving elements like the 'drum deck' and a roll of honour, with acoustics designed for sound amplification. Located outside the city center, it will feature parking lots to improve the tailgating experience. Manica, collaborating with HNTB, was chosen over Populous. Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt hailed the design as 'spectacular,' while President Mark Donovan commended the firm for blending history with innovation. Founder David Manica expressed that designing the stadium in his hometown is a lifetime honor.
