Making Old New: DRG 10th Anniversary at David Roche Gallery

The David Roche Gallery in South Australia commemorates its tenth anniversary with the exhibition 'Making Old New', which juxtaposes pieces from its 18th to early 20th-century European and British collection with modern interpretations by twenty South Australian artists linked to JamFactory. This exhibition will be on view from 23 May to 1 August 2026. Each artist engaged with various mediums, including ceramics, glass, furniture, jewellery, and sculpture, choosing a historical item to reinterpret. Notable source objects feature prisoner-of-war straw boxes, a copper imperial peck measure, a Russian malachite vase, and a Louis Moinet l'Aine clock. Contemporary highlights include Clare Belfrage's glass works 'Falling Into I' and 'Floating Time I', Alexandra Hirst's rattles titled 'Child's play', and Nathan Martin's stool named 'This stool is for polishing, not gambling'. This exhibition marks a decade since the gallery opened Fermoy House to showcase David Roche's fine and decorative arts collection.
