Makers Barn: A Converted Pigsty in Rural London

The Makers Barn, a 70-square-meter residence designed by HUTCH design, has been completed in the rural periphery of London, United Kingdom. The project, led by principal architect Craig Hutchinson, transforms an abandoned pigsty into a modern dwelling that honors its agricultural origins. The barn's design draws inspiration from the robust gabled roofs of nearby Tudor cottages and features vertical larch cladding, creating a utilitarian silhouette against a meadow of tall grasses and wildflowers. The interior, also by HUTCH, is designed for both enjoyment and functionality, aiming to foster a deep sense of well-being for its inhabitants. The project was completed in 2024 and photographed by Helen Cathcart.
