Magnus Pettersen's Concrete Sculptures at Other Circle in Copenhagen

At The Lab on Vermundsgade in Copenhagen, the group exhibition 'other circle' showcased the sculptural creations of Magnus Pettersen during 3daysofdesign. The Norwegian artist, who resides in Copenhagen, displayed stone-like faces, boulder shapes, and stacked concrete totems that challenge the boundaries between sculpture and design. His pieces, created through techniques involving pressure, pigment, and manual craftsmanship, prioritize materiality over practical use. In 2015, Pettersen established the studio Pettersen & Hein with Danish designer Lea Hein, who is recognized for her innovative use of concrete through dyeing, casting, and polishing. Their creations—stools, mirrors, tables, and vases—merge functional furniture with artistic expression, while Pettersen's latest independent works resemble carved markers or fictional artifacts, featuring faces emerging from stone-like forms and stacked columns. The exhibition underscored a practice that regards concrete, stone, and steel as dynamic materials, proposing craft as a progressive language.
