Magic Malik Jazz Association Performs Modern Jazz Repertoire at Le Jass Club Paris on September 19

Flutist Magic Malik leads the Jazz Association at Le Jass Club Paris on September 19, marking his first engagement with the modern jazz repertoire. The ensemble features trumpeter Olivier Laisney, known for Slugged, Oxyd, and the Gil Evans Paris Workshop, alongside pianist Maxime Sanchez, a recent finalist in the Monk Competition. Bassist Damien Varaillon and drummer Stefano Lucchini complete the lineup. The program draws on compositions associated with Wayne Shorter, Sonny Rollins, and Clifford Brown, approached without nostalgia or repetition, and with the influence of Eric Dolphy and Booker Little in mind. Nathalie Piolé of France Musique praised the project, describing surprises throughout the album that resurface in familiar themes, and calling it a success marked by freedom and audacity. The event is a partner presentation of Club Artistik Rezo.
