Madrid bathhouse Riela evokes moonlight and Mediterranean immersion

Located at Calle de Apodaca, 20, Centro, 28004 Madrid, Spain, Riela is a newly opened bathhouse, deriving its name from the archaic Spanish term rielar, which signifies the moonlight's reflection on water. The architecture, crafted by Oficina Satélite from Barcelona, draws inspiration from Roman thermae, Japanese onsen, and Russian banya. Guests can enjoy a 75-minute self-guided experience featuring a Finnish sauna, hammam, mineral hot pool, cold plunges, and heated granite stones. The ambiance is enhanced by backlit glass bricks that emit a greenish hue, with rough walls and granite sourced from Madrid quarries. Founders Marc Castaño and Laia Rafel envision Riela as a low-light social space. Individual passes and monthly memberships are available, with plans for expansion to a larger Madrid site, followed by locations in Barcelona, Paris, and London.
