Madrid-based photographer Nacho Varela captures cinematic human moments through street photography

Spanish photographer Nacho Varela, based in Madrid, documents everyday life through a cinematic lens, focusing on spontaneous human moments in urban environments. He began practicing street photography in 2017 in his hometown and has since expanded his work globally, developing it into both a passion and vocation. Varela's approach is candid and spontaneous—he doesn't ask permission before photographing—resulting in images that are humanistic, respectful, and intimate. His work emphasizes color, though he occasionally works in black and white, seeking beauty within the chaos of street life. Since 2022, he has co-led street photography workshops with photographer Gaby Chinea through their project Todos a la Calle, held in various cities. Varela's photography encourages viewers to notice details and become more aware of their surroundings, transforming perspectives through captured micro-stories that invite imagination and reflection.
