Madame Tussauds Berlin Unveils World's First Wax Döner Kebab

other · 2026-10-08

Madame Tussauds in Berlin has added a new exhibit: the world's first döner kebab made of wax, modeled on the popular vegetable döner from Mustafa's Gemüse Kebab at Berlin's Mehringdamm. According to the museum, production involved several steps. To make the wax döner look as true to the original as possible, a real döner with sauce was first ordered and photographed from various angles. But the sauce quickly became a problem: the döner turned soggy. So a second one was ordered — this time without sauce. That one was then taken apart and its individual components — from lettuce leaf to onion pieces — frozen. The ingredients were subsequently cast and their shapes taken. Different types of wax were used for the various components; among other things, the moist texture of the tomato was to be reproduced as precisely as possible. The individual ingredients later served as templates for the wax model, and piece by piece the replica of the Berlin cult döner took shape. Tarik Kara, the owner of the snack stand, was present at the presentation: "It is reproduced one-to-one exactly and looks very real. A wax döner cannot look better," the owner said. The cost of the wax kebab: according to the museum, around 10,000 euros. That should put the döner in a league of its own, at least in terms of price.
