MAD completes Tengyun Center with cloud-like buildings for Tencent in Shenzhen

MAD has completed the Tengyun Center in Shenzhen, China, for tech giant Tencent. The 72,000-square-metre complex features three interconnected curved volumes described as 'cloud buildings,' raised 8.6 metres above ground on structural cores to create a public realm. Two office towers and a droplet-shaped building complete the development. The volumes step down toward the bay and are linked by steel-truss bridges. Offices are arranged around atriums with semi-open skylights, while the southernmost building hosts events and exhibitions. The ground level offers public paths and shaded gardens preserving existing mangroves. Founder Ma Yansong emphasized the design prioritizes public space over a closed corporate icon. The project is part of Tencent's 80-hectare headquarters spanning Qianhai and Da Chan Bay. MVRDV is also completing residential high-rises on site. MAD recently finished the Hainan Science Museum in Haikou and Lishui Airport.
