MACPR Opens 'Diasporican Abstraction,' a 60-Artist Show Spanning Four Galleries

exhibition · 2026-10-19

On September 26, 2026, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico (MACPR) will unveil "Diasporican Abstraction: Identities Beyond Representation," which will be on display until May 2027. Curated by Abdiel D. Segarra Ríos, this exhibition showcases the work of more than sixty artists from Puerto Rico, the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia, arranged as ecosystems within four galleries. It features art from the Caribbean, Central America, and South America, connecting different generations through common themes of color, form, and territory. A notable aspect is the collaboration between pieces from El Museo del Barrio's collection and MAC's Permanent Collection. Featured artists include Olga Albizu, Candida Álvarez, Rafael Ferrer, and Ángel Otero, who delve into themes of identity and belonging beyond national confines.
