MAC Panamá selects Palma + Taller TO for new museum building

Palma and Taller TO, two Mexican architectural firms, have been chosen to create the new Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Panamá (MAC Panamá) building after an international competition that began in January 2026. Situated in Panama City's San Francisco district, the museum aims to establish the area as a cultural center. Coordinated by Ginnette Gotti, the jury featured architects David Basulto, José Esparza Chong Cuy, Ramón Zafrani, Annamaria Zampogna, urbanist Martha Thorne, and museum representatives Antonio Murzi and Graciela Quelquejeu de Chapman. Out of 363 submissions from 56 countries, five finalists were announced in March 2026. The winning design, celebrated for its integration of architecture and public space, will enhance the museum's capacity for conservation and education, with a focus on sustainability and community engagement.
