Lynne Breitfeller's 'Today is Yesterday and Tomorrow' Chronicles Caregiving and Dementia

artist · 2026-08-30

Lynne Breitfeller, a photographer hailing from New Jersey, has introduced a touching project titled 'Today is Yesterday and Tomorrow.' This work, highlighted on Lenscratch, captures her experiences as a caregiver for her parents, both of whom are struggling with dementia. She began documenting their health issues in 2018, starting with her father's prostate cancer treatment, and continued through 2019 when her mother had heart failure and got a pacemaker. In 2023, she moved them into memory care, shortly before her mother passed away, while her father still calls for her at night. The collection features evocative photos like 'Wedding Kiss' and 'Dad Wiping Mom's Mouth After Stroke.' A graduate of the International Center of Photography, Lynne has showcased her work at several notable institutions and was honored as a Top 50 photographer by Photolucida in 2023.
