Lynda Draper's 'GR'AFT' Brings Bronze, Ceramics and Glass to Canberra Glassworks
Thurrural Thirroul-based artist Lynda Draper developed the body of work presented in "GR'AFT" during a 2024 residency at Canberra Glassworks. The sculptures unite bronze, ceramics and glass, produced through collaborations with skilled artisans including the gallery team and Nick Stanks of Carwoola Casting. In the works, Draper reconnects with formal languages that shaped her practice across the 1980s and 1990s. A restrained palette defines the pieces, whose surfaces evoke confectionery, icing and wax. Recurring biomorphic and funnel-like forms suggest growth, transformation and vitality. The exhibition runs at Canberra Glassworks in the Australian Capital Territory from 6 August to 25 October 2026. Among the works is "Apparition II" (2025), made of glazed ceramic and hand-blown glass and measuring 91 × 65 × 35cm. Simon Hewson photographed the work, which is courtesy the artist and Canberra Glassworks, Australian Capital Territory.
