Lviv Performance Dialogue: Pivtorak and Shumska at Jam Factory

The Jam Factory Art Center in Lviv will be the venue for a discussion on September 5 at 4:00 PM, featuring cultural studies expert Yuliia Pivtorak and interdisciplinary artist Yaryna Shumska. Titled “Theory and Practice of Action: Performance in Lviv’s Landscape,” the conversation will focus on the fleeting essence of performance art, its connection to urban environments, and the difficulties in preserving such ephemeral works. Pivtorak, a Ukrainian Catholic University lecturer with a background in Ukrainian art history, has studied at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and New York University, and has held a research fellowship at Adam Mickiewicz University. Shumska, an alumnus of the Lviv National Academy of Arts, has a rich curatorial and artistic history, including co-founding the Department of Contemporary Art Practices at LNAA in 2018 and organizing various performance initiatives. The aim is to investigate why some artistic acts gain iconic status while others do not, as well as the relationship between performance theory and Lviv's physical landscape. Attendance is free but requires prior registration through a Google form. This event is facilitated by NEWEAST, a contemporary art platform for Central and Eastern Europe.
