LUKSTUDIO Transforms Shanghai Healthcare Building into The Nimbus Café and VIP Lounge

Shanghai United Imaging Healthcare commissioned LUKSTUDIO to convert a standalone 130-square-metre building on Yishan Road's commercial plaza into a ground-floor café with a private VIP lounge above. Completed in 2024, the project spans 127 square metres and was led by principal architect Christina Luk, with a design team of Du Xue, Rebecca Tan and Qiao Haibin. Dirk Weiblen photographed the renovation, which falls under renovation, café interior and wellness space categories. The design draws on the concept of the "tribe," softening conventional medical boundaries by blurring the lines between doctors and patients, interior and exterior, and formal and informal settings. Light is used throughout to foster a welcoming, healing atmosphere. Fangfang Studio served as lighting consultant and Miao Jianbo as structural consultant, while Jingqiu (Shanghai) Architectural Design & Decoration Co., Ltd. acted as construction company. The project was submitted by the design team and curated by HAN Shuang.
