Lucinda Childs on Her Enduring Creative Pace at 85

Choreographer Lucinda Childs, 85, remains prolific with a Bard SummerScape 2026 program and a five-year residency at Gibney Company. Her program includes a revival of Geranium ’64, a section from Einstein on the Beach honoring Robert Wilson and Philip Glass, and a segment of Available Light (1983) designed by Frank Gehry. Childs discussed her transition from Judson Dance Theater’s conceptual work to a formal style inspired by Robert Morris’s minimalism. She is creating a new piece for Philip Glass’s anniversary, using his composition Another Look at Harmony, an hour-long work with choral elements. Childs continues to work daily, emphasizing physical exercise as key to her health and creativity. She will also participate in a revival at the Watermill Center this summer, a year after Wilson’s death.
