Luciano Fabro Retrospective at Pirelli HangarBicocca in 2026

Pirelli HangarBicocca in Milan will host 'Abitare lo spazio' from October 8, 2026 to February 21, 2027, the first major museum retrospective dedicated to Luciano Fabro since his death in 2007. Curated by Fiammetta Griccioli, Roberta Tenconi, and Vicente Todolí with Silvia Fabro, the show gathers about fifty works spanning sculptures and installations, tracing the entire artistic trajectory of a key Arte Povera figure. Fabro's concept of 'habitat'—a real, livable space rather than a fictional installation—guides the exhibition, which reconstructs several of his designed habitats. Fabro rejected labels like Arte Povera, insisting on his autonomy. His sculptures, influenced by Lucio Fontana and Piero Manzoni, transform space and perception. Materials such as marble, bronze, glass, lead, silk, paper, and mirrors each carry specific expressive qualities. Fabro decided to become an artist at age 12, moved to Milan in 1959, co-founded Casa degli Artisti with Hidetoshi Nagasawa and Jole De Sanna, and taught at Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera from 1983 to 2002.
