Lucas Jimeno Dualde Transforms 80-Year-Old Stable into Contemporary Country House in Itaipava

In Itaipava, within the Fluminense mountain range, an 80-year-old stable from Fazenda São João de Icaraí has been converted into a modern country residence. The project, led by architect Lucas Jimeno Dualde, aimed to preserve the rural identity and geography of the site while adapting it for contemporary living. Completed in 2024, the 572-square-meter structure was originally an isolated volume surrounded by vegetation, serving as the last remnant of a pastoral past. Curated by Susanna Moreira, the design team included Augusto Kenji and Pablo Resende, with photography by Ruy Teixeira. Suppliers involved were Leilão Design, Lucas Jimeno Dualde, and Olaria. The intervention focused on transforming the agricultural space without erasing its historical context, addressing the challenge of updating a nearly century-old construction.
