Luca Aigner on Dance, Discipline and Coming Out After Troye Sivan's 'Rush'

Born in 2003 and raised in Bavaria, Luca Aigner has danced since the age of six, when his mother enrolled him in a hip-hop class in his village. He moved to Berlin and Los Angeles at nearly 18 and now works as a dancer, choreographer and model, appearing in campaigns for Nike and Puma and in Troye Sivan's music video for Rush. A myocarditis diagnosis at 19, early in his career, reshaped his relationship to his body; he describes himself as an artist who is above all an athlete, prioritizing career longevity. In an interview with Lucie Rittau for Sleek, Aigner discusses opening the ABOUT YOU Opera with a four-minute solo under a single spotlight, a moment he describes as trust and gratitude rather than control. He names Jazz Funk and Contemporary as his main styles and resists early definition. He also criticizes German styling for dancers, saying outfits are often adapted too little for movement, and notes that modeling taught him "less is more." Working on Rush at 19, alongside director Gordon von Steiner and choreographer Sergio Reis, preceded his public coming out as homosexual.
