Lubomír Typlt's Expressive Figuration Surveyed at Danubiana Meulensteen

The Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum in Bratislava presents 'I Came Back, Though We Did Not Miss Each Other,' the most extensive survey of Czech painter Lubomír Typlt in Slovakia. Born in 1975 in Nová Paka, Typlt studied at Brno University of Technology under Jiří Načeradský and at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Markus Lüpertz, Gerhard Merz, and A. R. Penck. Since the late 1990s, he has developed an expressive figurative style, also creating kinetic installations and lyrical compositions for the musical project WWW Neurobeat. The exhibition spans three decades but avoids a retrospective framework, focusing on his current position and formative moments. It includes oil paintings, tempera works on paper, and objects, emphasizing pictorial intensity, dynamic gesture, and contrasting complementary colors. Key series explore heightened emotional states through metaphor and recurring motifs. Typlt suppresses individual identity for collective dynamics, depicting puppet-like figures on emptied stages that reflect social moods and geopolitical climate. The exhibition is designed to unsettle, pressing against viewer comfort without offering catharsis.
